Minor (Ages 8 - 10)

​

Play at this level more closely resembles traditional baseball

Pitching distance is 46ft (35ft for softball) and base paths are 60ft.
No leading off bases.  Runners may steal after the ball crosses the plate.
Teams in this division will play official Little League Blue Book rules.

MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT
Your child must turn 8 on or before August 31st of the current year to register.

​

SEASON

The season typically starts at the beginning of April and runs through mid-June.

​

GAMES

Each team plays 10-12 games per season.

Games will be played on Mondays and Wednesdays no earlier than 5pm.

Game length is typically 1 hour 45 minutes - 2 hours.  No new inning will start after 1 hour 45 minutes.

All Minor teams will play in an end of season tournament against Minor teams from other districts.

PRACTICE

Practice occurs twice a week for three to four weeks prior to the season with some practices during the season at the Coach's discretion.

UNIFORMS

TAYBS provides a jersey and hat. 

Numbers are placed on jerseys and the back of the hat.
Rubber cleats are highly recommended.

PLAYING EQUIPMENT

Batting helmet and USA Baseball certified baseball/softball bat will be provided.

Parents must provide a glove and may provide their own equipment if desired.

Any bats purchased or used must meet the criteria described here: Little League Bat Rules

Catcher's gear will be provided.  All boys playing Catcher must provide their own athletic cup.

TEAM

Teams usually consist of 10-12 players, a volunteer Head Coach, two volunteer Coaches, and a volunteer Team Parent.

MINOR FAQS

Q: Can I play up to a higher division?

A: Yes, all players in this division can be considered for Major. Please review both division descriptions carefully and register your player for the division best suited for their skill level.  The league will consider the parent's wishes, the player's skill level, and the needs of the league before making a determination.  

 

Q: Do you keep score and are there umpires?

A: Yes. Every Coach maintains a scorebook. League standings are kept to determine playoff games. There are two umpires on the field.

Q: What size field do they play on?
A: All games are played on a regulation Little League field. Bases are 60ft apart and the pitcher's mound is 46ft (35ft for softball) from home plate.

Q: Can I Coach a team?

A: Yes, if positions are available! Prospective Coaches must complete an online application.  If you would like to serve as a Coach, then please note that on your child's online registration.  All Coaches must be approved by the TAYBS Board of Directors and the Iosco County 4H.

Q: Will my child get to play all the time?

A: No, not all the time, but every player is guaranteed (2) defensive innings and (1) at bat per game.

​

Q: What are the volunteer requirements?

A: TAYBS is an all-volunteer organization so there are many ways to volunteer. Help is always needed with team parenting, assisting with picture and opening night activities, and helping with post-season tournaments.  These are just a few of the many ways to help support the league.
